Our First Community Outreach

Our first community outreach at Orchard Valley at Wilbraham on January 22, 2023, was a resounding success! It was particularly meaningful as January 22nd coincided with the actual Chinese New Year Day for 2023.

We had a wonderful time engaging with the seniors, sharing the traditions of Chinese New Year, writing couplets and blessings, and crafting paper cut lanterns and window flowers. The residents thoroughly enjoyed learning about the traditions, especially the paper cut lanterns and the calligraphed character "" (pronounced as "Fu", meaning "Blessing"). They each received a couple of decorations to adorn their rooms for the New Year.

Seeing the smiles on their faces warmed our hearts. Visiting the elderly and conveying good wishes to them in person is a cherished tradition during Chinese New Year, and it brings immense joy to the seniors. Moving forward, we aim to establish this as a CAWM tradition: visiting seniors around the Chinese New Year season to spread celebration and holiday cheer to them!
